Energy suppliers in the United Kingdom

Finding the best energy supplier

In the United Kingdom, there are many energy suppliers offering a wide range of energy contracts. This can make finding a new energy deal quite challenging. The best energy supplier depends on your personal preferences and your annual energy consumption.

To find the best energy supplier, The Savings Club recommends taking the following factors into account:

  • Type of energy contract: one of the most important choices is between a fixed tariff, a variable tariff or a dynamic or time of use tariff. Carefully consider the advantages and disadvantages of each option and compare the price differences.
  • Origin of electricity: choose a contract with electricity from a mix of energy sources, partially renewable electricity, or 100 percent renewable electricity generated in the UK or abroad.
  • Access to customer service: consider how customer support is provided, such as telephone support, online chat or digital only service.
  • Payment methods: payment options vary by supplier and contract. Some suppliers require monthly direct debit payments, while others may offer alternative payment methods.
  • Additional services: some energy suppliers offer extra services, such as boiler cover or home emergency assistance. You may receive discounts on these services if you combine them with your energy contract.
  • Application: many UK energy suppliers offer user friendly apps that allow you to track your energy consumption. These apps can be linked to your smart meter, making it easier to monitor how much energy you use.
